Open-source models advance rapidly. Baseten prioritizes serving the highest-quality models and deprecates specific Model APIs when stronger alternatives become available. When Baseten selects a model for deprecation, it follows this process:

Announcement

  • Baseten announces deprecations approximately two weeks before the deprecation date.
  • Baseten updates the documentation to identify the deprecated model and recommend a replacement.
  • Baseten contacts affected users by email.

Transition

The deprecated model remains fully functional until the deprecation date. You have approximately two weeks to transition using one of these options:
  • Migrate to a dedicated deployment with the deprecated model weights. Contact us for assistance.
  • Update your code to use an active model (the deprecation announcement recommends one).

Deprecation date

  • The deprecated model ID becomes inactive and returns an error for all requests.
  • Baseten publishes a changelog notification with the recommended replacement.

Planned deprecations

No deprecations are currently scheduled.
